Kathy Fairweather

Kathy Fairweather is a senior associate at Quinn & Scattini Lawyers and is part of Q&S’s Wills & Estates Team.

Kathy has been a solicitor since 1993. After being admitted as a solicitor, she worked in general practice, then joined one of Australia’s leading trustee companies, to specialise in Wills and Estates. While she was there she was promoted to Manager of the Legal Services Division.

Kathy’s work has a strong emphasis on wills, trusts and powers of attorney, business succession planning, superannuation, estate administration and estate litigation.

Understanding her clients’ needs for practical, easy-to-understand advice and solutions to their estate planning objectives, Kathy is careful to take the time to discuss with each client how to best achieve their wishes.

Kathy has extensive experience in estate administration, including estates that contain international assets. She provides practical options to assist executors and administrators confronted with the task of collecting the deceased’s assets, paying their bills, finalising their tax affairs and distributing the estates to the beneficiaries, at the same time, ensuring her clients are safeguarded from future claims against them.

When handling estate litigation matters, Kathy quickly identifies the legal issue at hand. She explains in plain English to the client and provides options for her clients to resolve the dispute as best suits them.

Kathy has represented both executors, beneficiaries and other estate litigation claimants across a wide range of estate litigation matters in the Supreme and District Courts. These matters include: complex grants of probate and letters of administration, family provision claims, disputes about testamentary capacity and interpretation of will provisions.

“Kathy was very professional in advising us on arranging our wills. She suggested several things we never thought of like ” what if this or that should happen” which made us rethink some of our decisions. We would have no hesitation in contacting her again should the need arise.AC”

“We found Kathy to be very knowledgeable and her advice was very good….. we were extremely happy with the timely and efficient way Kathy handled our Wills & POAs…..she is a very nice lady with a very business-like but warm manner….We would be delighted to have Kathy look after us in any further matters falling within her area of responsibility.BY”

I found Kathy to be courteous and very competent in handling the legal process in order to reach the desired outcome. She proved to be very patient and meticulous throughout and kept me regularly updated throughout the legal process. Any legal difficulties were handled in a professional manner. I certainly felt very comfortable having Kathy represent me. PS”
